The species includes: Cymbidium madidum, cymbidium suave, cymbidium canaliculatum.
The native Cymbidium species grow mainly in Queensland, high up in hollows in eucalyptus trees. In cultivation they are best grown in orchid bark & hung up high in polycarbonate houses. Down south we need to water in summer and keep dry in winter – trying to keep as close to their natural conditions as possible.
These cymbidiums have long trailing racemes, with 50 & more flowers on each.
Many hybrids have been breed & make very attractive potplants.
